My first wedding.

In Mexico.

It couldn’t have been better.

To say I was thrilled to shoot Rodrigo and Rana’s wedding in Mexico would be an understatement.  For a few moments I may have been happier than them.  I felt very welcome by Rodrigo, Rana and their family members. Everybody was in a happy and cheerful mood. When the weather is 29°C and you are at the beach at the Moon Palace resort it is hard not to be in a great mood.

My job here was to capture these moments on this special day.  To tell a story. Their story.

Thank you for trusting me and allowing me into your lives.

Enjoy.

I was lying in my hammock, enjoying a relaxing afternoon when I spotted a couple of kites flying near the Surfing Turtle Lodge.  Without hesitation I grabbed my camera and with a 2-second hesitation chose my 45mm Tilt-Shift lens and ran out to capture some pictures. Toronto Photographer : flying a kite on the beach in NicaraguaTravel Photographer : getting ready to fly the kite on the beachflying a kite : on a beach in Nicaraguakite in the sky : in Nicaragua

The weather was absolutely perfect for my 1-week stay in Nicaragua.  From walking on deserted beaches to sight-seeing in León, I had a great time.  León is Nicaragua’s 2nd biggest city, after Managua, with a population of about 400,000 people.  It is located about 18km east of the Pacific Ocean coast.  It has many historic Spanish colonial homes and churches.  We visited the Catedral de Leon which is Central America’s biggest cathedral.  We only spent a day in León and I regret that it was not longer.  I’m definitely looking forward to coming back here one day.  Here are some pics from this trip.

On February 26th, I flew from cold Toronto to sunny Nicaragua for a week.  About 2 years ago, six of my friends bought some land on a deserted beach called Isla Los Brasiles, a 5 min boat ride from Poneloya.  They decided to build a travel lodge/hostel http://www.surfingturtlelodge.com/ and below are a few pictures I took of some of the activities and entertainment that had happened.  The weather was 35 °C every day with virtually no chance of rain.  Being right on the Pacific Ocean meant that there was no humidity either, just a nice cool ocean breeze.

For just USD $10/night you can sleep in a dorm bed or for a little more you can have a private room or your own cabin.  I was able to experience all of these accomodations and you simply can’t go wrong when the beach is a few steps away.  The weekend was packed full of excitement as there was a Pig Roast and the place was jammed with people from all over the world.  It was a nice party atmosphere with good vibes and good music.  The weekdays were more relaxed and chill as there were less travelers and more time was spent lounging, swimming, lying in hammocks and gazing at stars at nighttime.  I went jogging one late morning and for about 20-25min on the beach I did not encounter a single person, so it truly is a deserted and remote location.

I hope you enjoy the pictures of the Surfing Turtle Lodge.

On a cold, but not freezing sunday, Kelly and I took some pictures in downtown Toronto.  It was only -2°C so I was used to this temperature, but Kelly had recently flown in from Colombia so she was definitely feeling the cold!  We walked around near the yonge/dundas-Nathan Phillips Square are for some portraits.
