Quebec City Trip

My wife is due in early September with our first child, so we realized that we better go on a trip, otherwise it might be a while before we can go again.  I had visited Quebec City many years ago for New Year’s Celebrations in the winter.  Thought it was prime time to see the city, especially Old Quebec during the summer.  We travelled on the VIA Train which was about 9 hours, but a pretty comfortable ride.  Definitely far more leg room and more comfy chairs than on planes.

We stayed at the Best Western and it was about a 12-15 minute walk to Old Quebec.  I took my trusty 5DII and either a Canon 35mm f1.4 or the Canon 45mm f2.8 TS lens on each of our long walks of the city.  We walked a lot!  And the weather was really gorgeous.  Of course, in Old Quebec the place was populated by tourists.  So it was no surprise that a pint of Guiness at one of the pubs was ~$9.00.  My wife did a little bit of shopping, finally settling on a green pair of Tom’s shoes and a couple of other smaller items.  There is something about walking on narrow cobblestone streets and passing by old churches.  And just the feel and atmosphere of the city is something special.  Its tougher to get that in Toronto which is so large and not nearly as intimate.  I would definitely go back.  Especially as travelling by train is convenient and comfortable, though not cheap.

Here are some photos from our trip.
