Michelle + Genevieve

First of all. Its a big post. My longest one ever.  I’ve been telling myself to try doing quality over quantity, but in this case I liked so many of these photos that I had to include a lot more than usual.  This is my first time trying a very photojournalistic approach to a photo session. I wanted to tell a story of two girlfriends going to Queen Street and Kensington Market for a bit of shopping and a coffee.  To tell the story I had to include more pictures than I had thought previously.  I hope you guys agree with me and I hope you tell me either way. I’d be curious to know what people think.

It was about 1 degree Celsius today in Toronto so Michelle and Genevieve were real troopers putting up with all my demands.  I have to say, at this point I really wish i had 2 cameras because switching lenses is usually a small chore, but in cold weather and wearing thin gloves its even worse.  I’m probably gonna pick up a 5D in January so i’m looking forward to that.  I shot this session with the Canon 50mm f1.4 and a few shots were with the Canon 45mm f2.8 TS lens.  I love the Tilt-Shift lens but a shoot like this I would have preferred to use a Canon 35mm f1.4 lens, which coincidentally I will also be getting in January.  The wider focal length is better suited to a photoshoot like this, and I wouldn’t have had to back up as much as I did today with the 50mm.  Not to say the 50mm focal length is bad for a shoot like this, but I don’t think its optimal.

The one great thing about December is that there are a lot of cloudy, overcast days and that gives off nice, soft light with little chance of over-exposing skin, etc.
